The absence of a final settlement for the Sahara issue hampers the integration of the Maghreb and promotes terrorism and all kinds of trafficking in the region, said European Deputy Aymeric Chauprade.
The adoption of this agreement is an experience attesting that Morocco is considered an important partner for the EU, which takes into account the Kingdom's supreme interests, Bourita stressed at a press briefing following his meeting with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, adding that this adoption affirms the fact that any agreement should include the southern provinces of the Kingdom, as a basis for any strong partnership.
"Our partnership has demonstrated, during this period, its resilience to attacks, manoeuvres and all actions that tended to torpedo it and create a crisis between Morocco and the EU", underlined Bourita, noting that the timing chosen reflects a strong willingness to overcome this situation and relaunch the partnership, notably in political, security and economic areas.
In this regard, the minister went on, it was decided to reactivate all the cooperation and partnership mechanisms that had broken down since 2016, in order to give the EU-Morocco partnership the important weight it had acquired over the years, taking into account the long-standing relations between Morocco and the EU.
Bourita also referred to Morocco's special position with the EU, given its strategic geographical location and stability, as well as its clear economic vision that reassures its various partners.
Morocco's leading role in the Arab world and on the African continent is another asset that makes the Kingdom the ideal partner for the EU, Bourita added, noting that the adoption by the European Parliament of the agriculture agreement is a clear vote in favor of Morocco's strategic approach in partnership with the EU.
