Autonomy Proposal Offers Framework For Acceptable Political Solution To Sahara Issue

Morocco’s proposal to grant autonomy to its southern provinces, the Sahara, represents a framework for reaching a political and mutually acceptable solution in line with the parameters set by the UN without amendments, Communication Minister and Spokesperson for the Government Mustapha El Khalfi said on Thursday in Rabat.

El Khalfi, who was speaking to the Press following the weekly cabinet meeting, said that following the phone conversation between HM King Mohammed VI and the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, "coordination with the UN was reinvigorated with a view to finding a political solution" to the conflict that has long-lasted.

Morocco’s autonomy proposal offers a serious and credible basis for settling the Sahara conflict, said the Minister, adding that the Kingdom supports UN initiatives aiming at finding a political and mutually acceptable solution.
