Morocco became an observer member of the Pacific Alliance, a regional grouping that brings together Colombia, Peru, Chile and Mexico.

This observer status was given to Morocco during the eighth summit of the Alliance held on Monday in the Colombian city of Cartagena, on the Caribbean sea.

Morocco becomes thus the first African and Arab country to join the bloc after the USA, Canada, France, Japan and Finland.

The grouping also chose Morocco to open a trade office in the city of Casablanca, sources from the grouping said.
