A delegation of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human rights (OHCHR) held, on Tuesday in Laayoune, meetings with civil society actors to get informed about human rights protection mechanisms in Morocco.

The delegation also held a meeting with the Regional Human Rights Committee in Laayoune-Es Smara, on the body’s activities and experience in the human rights field.

In a statement to the press, chairman of the said Committee Mohamed Salem Cherkaoui said that this meeting was marked by a presentation on the Committee’s human rights measures and mechanisms locally.

Emphasis was also laid on Morocco’s recent actions in strengthening the rule of law, mainly the government’s prompt decision to interact with complaints lodged with the National Council for Human Rights (CNDH).
