Some Algerian Press Lead Provocative Media War Against Morocco: Ministe

Some Algerian media outlets are conducting a “provocative media war” against Morocco, said Wednesday in Rabat minister of Communication, Government spokesperson Mustapha El Khalfi, saying that 1,605 news articles hostile to the Kingdom have been published during one year, including 600 on the Moroccan Sahara issue.

“We have counted between June 2013 and June 2014 a total of almost 1,605 news articles which are hostile to Morocco, an average of 4 to 5 articles per day,” El Khalfi pointed out during a joint press conference with the minister of the Interior Mohamed Hassad and the minister-delegate for the Interior Charki Drais following statements by Algerian officials on the issue of fight against drugs.

Stressing that the Moroccan press is free and independent, the minister made it clear that “when the Kingdom wishes to express its views, it does so in a clear and direct manner.”

It is normal that the Moroccan press reacts to the campaign led by certain Algerian media outlets, he added during this meeting attended by several national and international media representatives.

This campaign of hate led by some Algerian media is part of the Algerian political one-upmanship meant to hide Algiers’ “negative and provocative role” and “purely hostile position” towards the Moroccan Sahara issue, he said.
