UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in his latest report on the Sahara, distributed Monday to members of the UN Security Council, his intention to relaunch the process of negotiations on the basis of realism and compromise with a new momentum and spirit to achieve a mutually acceptable political solution to the Sahara issue in accordance with Security Council resolutions.


In this report, Guterres recommended the extension of the mandate of Minurso by 12 months, until April 30, 2018.


The report referred to Morocco's decision to authorize the return of 17 civil officials from Minurso and its cooperation with the United Nations to bring this issue finally to an end.
