UAE Reaffirm Support for Moroccan Autonomy Plan

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) reiterated, on Friday in New York, their support for Morocco’s autonomy plan as a basis for a solution to the conflict over the Moroccan Sahara.

"The United Arab Emirates remain committed to their stable position supporting Morocco’s territorial integrity and reaffirm their support for the autonomy initiative proposed by Morocco to find a consensual solution to this conflict,” Emirati representative, Ahmad Al-Mahmoud, said before the 4th Committee of the UN General Assembly.

He added that the UAE also welcome Morocco's efforts in this regard, noting that the Security Council had deemed the Kingdom's efforts as serious and credible in the view of finding a solution to the conflict.

Regarding human rights, the United Arab Emirates welcome Morocco's initiatives to promote these rights and hail the participation of the inhabitants of the Sahara region in the last elections in the country, which "took place in a calm, free and democratic atmosphere,” he pointed out.

The Emirati representative said that his country also welcome Morocco’s efforts and initiatives aimed at achieving the development of the Sahara region and improving the socio-economic conditions of its inhabitants.
